Jacqueline Rideout has been a second language educator for over 30 years. She spent 20 years teaching core French and French immersion in Newfoundland and Labrador and a short time in New Brunswick. She spent 12 yeas as a French program specialist with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District working with Core French and French Immersion teachers. She has presented on several topics pertinent in second language teaching and learning at both ACPI and CASLT national conferences. Jacqueline is currently the French Coordinator with the faculty of Education at Memorial University.
Gennita Bartlett is a second language educator with over thirty years’ experience. Throughout her career, she has taught Core, Immersion and Intensive French in the K-12 system. Past positions also include district program specialist, school administrator, and president of Modern Languages Council. Gennita is a strong advocate for literacy and second language learning and the importance of the role of oral language in second language acquisition. Gennita was actively involved with the piloting and implementation of Intensive French programs and professional learning and teacher training for the ANL (l’ approche neurolinguistique) throughout the country. With an interest in adult learning, Gennita also enjoys working and sharing her passion for second language teaching and learning with pre service teachers and beginning FSL adult learners. Gennita has spent the latter part of her career working with the Department of Education in curriculum development as Program Development Specialist.
Description:
This session will focus on how selecting appropriate reading resources can support literacy development in FSL, specifically oral language development. There will also be a learning conversation on how these resources link to writing, in order to Boucle la boucle.
